In’s & Out’s

2 Mar

-I’m roughly 30% through grad school!

-I secured an internship to be a MFT Trainee! (I still call it an internship because it’s unpaid). I start getting my own clients this summer. Crazy!

-I’m no longer working in the service industry with the public. I’ll miss my team a bunch, but I will miss none of the public or manual labor.

-I got a new job babysitting the most adorable infant!

-Now I can focus on school, my wellness, this blog, everything…

-This rainy/cloudy weather. Love to cocoon under heavy blankets ❤

-Baseball season is approaching. Looking forward to Dodger game days!

-I went to Costco for the first time in over 10 years. I must say, that they have some pretty good food/meal options. I need to go back.

-From the craziness of the past few weeks, I have (yet another) cold.

-This month is full of projects and papers.

-I just realized that my cat is 9 years old. How?!

September Favorites :)

1 Oct

Hello Lovelies! I know it’s been so long since my last post. I have started grad school and been dealing with all new forms of torture to my body by the ultimate enemy- stress. Now that I finished a bunch of projects that were due, I finally have time to share MY SEPTEMBER FAVES!

Cargo HD Picture-Perfect Mascara

Another great Ipsy gift bag product I got to try. This stuff is like Benefit’s Their Real mascara, but better because it doesn’t dry out nearly as fast, and there’s long combs on 2 sides, and short combs on the other 2 sides. The short combs make it so easy to get up in there on those tiny inner lashes for full coverage. Also I love that the bristles are strong and comb-like because it helps separate my lashes. It’s amazing for layering different mascaras. I’ve been layering it with the one below…

Urban Decay’s Perversion Mascara

“Bigger. Blacker. Badder.” Ok, really? What a PERVERTED tag line! And yet so genius… Anyways, this mascara definitely does what it says. My lashes were instantly suuuuper thick. It also does a good job at lengthening, but I highly recommend keeping another brush on hand (such as the one I mentioned above) to separate clumps. Thicker lashes tend to stick together!

Wet ‘n’ Wild Color Icon Eyeliner in Purple/Violet

I never thought I’d see the day when I would revisit the cheapo brand from my naive middle school makeup days, but here I was on a grad school budget and low and behold Wet ‘n’ Wild had a sign saying something along the lines of “New and Improved Softer Formula” and I was sucked in. It was only 99 cents, so what did I have to lose? Let me tell you–get it! First of all, this is my all-time favorite color. When I put it on, it’s dark enough to be mistaken for a darker color, but in the light it turns heads! I wear it to work and have already influenced a coworker and a few customers to purchase their own. The formula is so much more impressive than the rock hard one I remember scratching my eyelids so vividly when I was 12 years old. This will definitely be one of my go-to Fall eyeliners!

Maybelline Define-A-Brow

This is probably the closest thing in the drugstore to the Anastasia Brow Wiz. And it’s 1/4th of the price! All you have to do is go a shade darker than usual, and it’s a dupe! I went for my usual color at first and it got that lighter than the hair/ colored in look in the light. Once it’s the right shade, BAM. You’re welcome.

Married At First Sight

My boyfriend, Nate doesn’t tolerate reality t.v. (I don’t know how he lives with me), and even he got sucked into this show! It’s probably one of the only true, unscripted reality television shows out there right now. It’s a real social experiment based on science and psychological theories. September has been the most intense as they have been nearing the end of their first month as legally married couples and have to decide on the show if they are going to divorce or remain married for the foreseeable future. 2 out of the 3 couples actually stayed married! Out of however many people tried out for the experiment, I would say that is incredible! I can’t wait for next season to see if the theories stick.

“The Last Anniversary” by Liane Moriarty

You’re all probably so sick of me recommending this author but I CAN’T GET ENOUGH! This book is my second or third favorite after “The Hypnotist’s Love Story.” This story is about a woman in her late thirties who unexpectedly inherits her ex boyfriend’s late aunt’s house. She gets wrapped into helping run their family business of maintaining a mystery tourist attraction and indubitably gets involved in the family secrets and drama. It’s one of those books that I enjoyed and I know my mom would too. When it was ending, I wanted more!

The Dodgers!

I’ll admit it- Nate got me hooked. But it’s such an exciting season, and going to the games is so much fun! I’m so excited that Kershaw is going to be a daddy. It’s going to be like the royal baby of baseball. This Saturday I’ll be going to my 5th(?) game this season. Playoffs, baby!

Carl Jung

AKA my psychologist soulmate. I just did a big presentation on him and I’ve got to say he’s a genius. Though he had weird beliefs about Hitler and women, there are so many synchronicities about my life and him that is so crazy! (Even the fact that he developed the theory of synchronicity and it’s something that I’ve believed in most of my life, I just called it “fate”). First of all, my love for psychology started when I was interested in dreams at age 10. Turns out all my old dream books referenced him. Then, he married a woman named Emma, HELLO! Also he developed the personality types that were later merged into the Myers-Briggs test. I wouldn’t even be in this masters program if I didn’t look up what professions an INFJ should have when I was miserable in PR!  And lastly, he kind of looks like Nate’s dad. Not sure how that relates, but I take it as a sign of something!

End of April Weekend

30 Apr

Last weekend was very busy. It’s safe to say the spring birthday season has begun. I used to hate my birthday being around this time of year- you have to plan your party way in advance to reserve the day from the others in your class. Anyways, last Saturday, Nate and I met his grandparents at the Reagan library for a baseball exhibit. After lunch, we found the exhibit but weren’t sure that we were at the beginning. One of the overly helpful elderly volunteers stepped in and showed us where to find the beginning of the exhibit. We go to where she directed us and it turned out that it was the beginning of the Reagan museum. How long can it be? We decided to walk on through. It then occurred to me that Nate’s sweet grandparents are VERY liberal. Even though I love Reagan, Grandpa Herb’s comments were hilarious. And Grandma Gail’s comments for him to stop made it even funnier. The baseball exhibit was really cool by the way. Lots of vintage stuff! Below is a picture of me posing in one of the Reagan tourist traps.

After the museum adventure, Nate and I headed over to our friends, Anthony and Brent’s (they’re twins!) birthday party. It was a day drinking BBQ. Nate drove, so I drank. We were both exhausted when we got home and took a nap. I didn’t wake up until 10:30 p.m. My Saturday night was dunzo. We still had to make an appearance at Zach’s birthday party that night. I couldn’t make it. Nate ended up going while I stayed home and watched Friends reruns.

Sunday was my friend, Deya’s bridal shower! It was so much fun. I got to catch up with old sorority sisters and meet new friends all while seeing Deya in a silly veil and sash. During present time, I volunteered (as Tribute) to make the bow bouquet (AKA “fou-quet”). It’s common tradition for brides to use bow bouquets from bridal shower presents at their wedding rehearsal. I had just been to my cousin-in-law’s bridal shower a month or so ago and watched her experienced wedding planner make hers, so I figured I might be able to take a stab at it. I must say I’m pretty impressed with the end result.

Deya all decked out

I’m so excited for this wedding! I love this couple so much and couldn’t be happier for them. Stay tuned for that posting in June. Also, my gift to them was a blanket, so I am excited to have another project to work on!

Keeping My Chin Up

14 Apr

I’ve been dealing with another depression spell lately, and I decided to update you all on what I’ve been up to/ think of all the positive things that have been going on.

steel panther

I got to attend Steel Panther’s album release party last week at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. I’ve never been upstairs before. It’s such a classic, old Hollywood spot. Just another perk of having a bf in the biz *hand flop*. I enjoyed it/felt like I was back in the 80’s. This is a picture I took with my favorite band member. He had his name in rhinestones on the butt of his leather pants. Switch lives with me?

Nate and I finally got to see a Dodger game this year! I got him tickets to opening weekend against the Giants for Valentine’s Day. The new Ramirez and Gonzales shirts that I bought were a little big, so Nate wore mine, and I wore his old Kemp one. How cute are we sharing clothes?!

mexicanWe made a whole day of it. The game started at 5:00 p.m., but we were downtown for lunch at this awesome Mexican restaurant (have I mentioned that is my favorite kind of food?!). I had a lime-jalepeno margarita. Not only was it fun but we got a clutch parking spot and had a nice walk up the hill to take away some of our food/drinking guilt.

Obligatory tall-boy selfie. Those things are like $15

Obligatory tall-boy selfie. Those things are like $15

Needless to say that we will need to attend more games this year because Time Warner screwed us DIrecTv-ers over! Grr.. WAIT I must stay positive..

Who is this cutie? My brother, AJ’s cat-son, Lynx. I got to take care of him while AJ was at Coachella. He’s cool. He has like 30 toes.

Speaking of toes… I had to post this cute moment of Milo 🙂
